How many uniforms should I buy?

Since students have PE three days a week, we recommend you start with more PE uniforms than daily uniforms.

In addition to purchasing Lands’ End uniforms, you may also purchase used uniform items in the CDS entrance. All Lands End pieces are not required, just suggestions. The necessary items are the PE uniform and daily dress options.

What does Red Team/Blue Team mean and when will I find out which team we are?

One of our favorite long-standing traditions is Red and Blue teams. Upon admittance, each student is assigned to either the Red or Blue Team. If another family member has attended CDS, they will be assigned to the same team. Throughout the year students compete to earn points for their team through games in PE, by earning the honor roll, participating in activities during assembly, etc. The competition culminates in Field Day in the spring, where the entire school competes in teams all day long to earn points for their team. Students become so loyal to their respective team that alumni, upon returning to campus, will often let out a cheer to their team. Go Red! Go Blue! Go Scorpions!

Does the school provide lunch?

Tuition includes healthy and age-appropriate snacks and lunch provided through the professional chefs from FLIK Dining Services. Students and teachers eat together at round tables, where everyone relishes the opportunity to enjoy each other in a less formal setting. Dining together is an extension of our curriculum, as teachers use this time to teach conversation skills and table manners. See the weekly menu and learn more about FLIK.

What if my child has food allergies or dietary concerns?

Our chefs have experience working with families with allergies and special dietary concerns. Please contact Chef Keith to discuss your child’s diet.

Where should I park when I come to campus?

Limited parking is available for visitors in the Charleston Day parking lot. Some on-street parking is available nearby, and the parking garage at 93 Queen Street is just around the corner.

What sports are available to my child?

Athletics are a long-standing tradition at Charleston Day School. While competitive sports begin starting in third grade, Charleston Day runs an intramural basketball program for students in first and second grades, known as Little Scorps that is widely popular. Last year 196 of our 250 students played basketball! Learn more about our athletic offerings.
