Gaining Perspective

February 18

The sixth grade art classes have been busy bringing to life their very own interior designs! Not only did they choose colors, furniture and other details, they applied one-point linear perspective to their designs. Before the unit began, several hands went up when asked if anyone was interested in becoming an architect or interior designer. But with this new knowledge of vanishing points and horizon lines, it’s apparent there are many creative visionaries and illustrators in class too! Understanding linear perspective can help artists create realistic images from their imaginations as well as see the world around them in a different light. Things close to us appear larger and things further away recede. Teaching linear perspective is not for the faint of heart, but once the students “get it,” their artwork goes to a new level. Enjoy this video presentation of the 6th grade artwork!
