Third Grade Read-a-Thon

October 24

Charleston Day third graders, who already love to read, were especially motivated during one week this month because each minute earned money. They had asked friends and family to sponsor them in their annual Read-A-Thon.

Some third graders read for more than 500 minutes, and all together the grade earned more than $6,000. Their proceeds will support the MUSC Children’s Hospital and the Sea Turtle Hospital at the South Carolina Aquarium.

While most of the reading occurs outside of school, the class walks down to Washington Park to read in the shade of the trees on the last day of the week. The third grade visited the Aquarium to present their check on October 18 and will present MUSC with a check on November 7.  Way to go, third grade!
