For the second time ever in Charleston Day’s basketball history, our 8th grade boys are the 2025 Trident League Senior Division Trident Champions. During a special all-school assembly, we raised a championship banner. It’s the second banner in three seasons. At the presentation, Coach Whetzel shared, “TWO banners in the last three seasons is not a coincidence — that’s a culture. That’s a standard. That’s a legacy in the making.”

A Perfect Season
Not only did the team win the championship, but they also achieved a basketball dream– the perfect season. Give a large round of applause to the 2025 undefeated Trident League champions.
Participating on any sports team requires dedication, effort, and a willingness to work with others. This season, our 8th grade boys demonstrated all these traits and more. The team worked together for the good of the group. Their unselfishness during practices and games strengthened the team and created opportunities to score points and force the opposing teams into mistakes.
The team included players with lots of natural talent. But, it’s the mental aspects the players brought to the games that were key ingredients in helping the group win every game they played and clinch the league championship title.
In addition, the team received an academic recognition. The group earned the Academic Team Cup, which is awarded to the team in each division with the highest GPA throughout the season.

Well-Rounded Players
The success of the 8th grade boys’ basketball team is a testament to the effectiveness of the Charleston Day athletics pro
ram. Charleston Day School has a well-rounded and inclusive sports philosophy that evolves as students progress through the grades. The program is designed to develop athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. It also ensures that students of all abilities have opportunities to participate and grow. The school maintains a no-cut policy; therefore, all interested children are encouraged to join a team.
Charleston Day School celebrates this significant achievement. We are so proud of the team’s accomplishments and the embodiment of the school’s values both on and off the court.
