They leave our community with the curiosity to explore new ideas, the empathy to build meaningful relationships, and the integrity to make a positive impact. Our Portrait of a Graduate reflects the qualities we intentionally cultivate in every student throughout their Charleston Day School journey.
Charleston Day School graduates approach the world with inquisitive minds and a willingness to embrace new challenges. They think critically, solve problems creatively, and are unafraid to ask thoughtful questions. They recognize that innovation begins with curiosity and that diverse perspectives enrich understanding. Whether in the classroom or the community, they seek opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute.
When we poll our graduates about their high school experiences, an overwhelming majority report participation on sports teams and in school activities. Over 80% of the most recent high school graduating class received academic honors, held leadership positions within the school community, and earned college scholarships and acceptances into honors programs at various universities.
Our graduates understand that meaningful leadership begins with self-awareness and genuine care for others. They reflect on their choices, persevere through challenges, and approach every opportunity with intention. They value collaboration, build authentic relationships, and strengthen their communities through service, kindness, and respect.
Each 8th grade class works together during their final year at CDS to raise money for a class gift. Like the many senior classes before them, the students choose a gift that will benefit future generations of Scorpions and be a lasting legacy of their time here. The special tradition reinforces important CDS values and is a final lesson about supporting our community. This mindset continues in high school and beyond with the contributions our graduates make beyond the CDS gates.
Charleston Day School graduates lead with integrity, humility, and courage. They take responsibility for their actions, remain grounded in their values, and strive to serve the common good. With confidence, poise, and clear communication, they inspire trust in others and are prepared to make a meaningful difference wherever their journey takes them.
Whether our graduates are leading student organizations or athletic teams by communicating expectations clearly and encouraging collaboration or writing professional emails and interviewing confidently for internships, we often hear about the poise and respect our former students demonstrate time and again.
