Fairy Tale Festival Enchants

January 29

The annual Fairy Tale Festival at Charleston Day is a magical way for second graders to learn about POV (point of view) in literature by bringing to life their very own stories retold through a specific character’s eyes, complete with costume and props. This year’s event event began Thursday with students in the garden constructing fairy houses out of sticks, leaves, feathers and more. The next morning, they lined up in the halls dressed as their characters, ready to enter their enchanted classrooms transformed for the day. Each student read his or her “retold” fairy tale in front of the class, continuing a long and wonderful tradition of public speaking at CDS. And the fairy houses in the garden? You guessed it. Apparently fairies visited and left wonderful trinkets for the children to discover. Love this tradition!
