In March, several 7th graders participated in the International Middle School Model UN Conference in Black Mountain, NC. They acted as ambassadors for three countries, tackling important issues. Students prepared for this trip all semester in the Debate Elective Class, one of the offerings for our middle school students.
All three groups did well presenting and defending their resolutions.
Democratic Republic of Congo group
Resolution: Boosting economy through mining of cobalt and ending violence
Result: RESOLUTION TIED 3-3
Maldives group
Resolution: Purchasing land in New South Whales, relocating, farming, and food production due to rising sea level
Result: RESOLUTION PASSED 4-2
El Salvador group
Resolution: Ending gang violence and boosting economy through developing textile industry and providing jobs for gang members
