Kindergarten Book Buddies
Reading Aloud to a Captive Audience
“Mr. Bear, can you see the pictures,” a kindergarten student asks his stuffed animal as he repositions the book and continues.
Around the room his classmates are having similar conversations with their “Book Buddies.” Each student brings in a stuffed animal from home, and it stays in the classroom for the entire year. During Book Buddy time, students select a book from the classroom library and find a quiet spot to read. They love spotting words they recognize as they share stories with their buddies.
