Learning Lab

Inspired Learning

A historic Charleston single house on our campus was renovated in 2014 and teacher and white board with students blue roomtransformed into the Moore Learning Center. This educational space is completely devoted to 21st-century learning strategies: creativity, collaboration, innovation and communication. Modern art and light fixtures, brightly colored walls and portable furniture create a vibrant, energetic learning space.

Academic Support

Unique Learners

The Moore Learning House also provides learning spaces for academic support. The goal of the Academic Support Program is to create an educational atmosphere conducive to a child’s success in the areas of support as well as enrichment. When providing academic assistance, Charleston Day recognizes that each student is a unique learner and seeks to find academic strategies that fit the individual student’s needs through a teaming approach that includes the student, parents, teachers, the Division Head, the Learning Specialist and Academic Dean.

Team Approach

The Learning Specialist works with students to help them access the curriculum and with teachers to implement thoughtful curriculum and teaching strategies. If teachers have concerns about a student’s academic progress or feel that academic enrichment is warranted for a student, they are asked to complete an Academic Support Plan to be discussed with the Division Head and Academic Dean. Parents will be consulted as well, and asked to provide input. This plan includes strategies and approaches which will be implemented in the classroom in order to address the needs of the student. After an implementation period, the team will meet to discuss the results of the plan, and to determine if concerns still exist.
